Mykonos….

It started with the ‘short, quick way’ into town…’just turn left at the old house with blue windows, and follow road and steps down’.

Road = dirt track through bushes. Steps = large rocks jutting out of dirt track through bushes.

It has to be Greece! Finally emerged at far end of Mykonos harbour…old port…after the dusty, hot, trek down. Note to self…do not attempt climb back up in 100 degree plus temperature….and do not attempt at night! No wonder the girls who came back up yesterday had to be cooled off, watered and given mouth to mouth! And I thought they were being dramatic!

Mykonos is busy…putting it mildly. The harbour is full of megalithic yachts of the oligarchs and other non-such. Cruise ships disgorging the crocodiles of tourists following raised banners. Chinese everywhere clicking their cameras madly and cursing me for getting in the way of their Kodak moments…he, he!

A quick walk past the plethora of jewellery and art shops…no Anna, I did not visit Lalalaounis…I stayed resolute and walked on by. Did splurge and had a frappe in a waterfront Taverna. Walked up past the thousand year old church of Paraportiani…where the wind was ferocious…always is. Through the maze of streets in Little Venice and up to the bastions of Mykonos….the line of giant windmills standing sentinel above it all.
